Position Overview
The Medical Lead is responsible for the
daily operations of the OP Medical department.
The Medical Lead-OP oversees the quality of medical services delivered
and is a team member of the continuous quality improvement program. Duties include development, implementation
and monitoring of medical team protocol, procedure, and practice. The Medical Lead-OP is responsible for
updating policies and procedures, the review of guidelines for medical care,
and insuring all medical employees are cognizant of current policies and procedures. The Medical Lead-OP is responsible for the
assurance of compliance to the Revised Code of Washington, Washington
Administrative Code and all other applicable laws and regulations. The Medical
Lead- OP supervises the direct service performed by other nursing staff.
Summary of the Essential Duties and
Responsibilities
- Oversees the quality
of medical care for the department.
- Develops service
components and service delivery pathways.
- Develops, implements,
and monitors medical team protocol, procedures, and practice, with other Nurse Leads
and Chief Medical Officer.
- Performs
medical/psychiatric triage of clients and coordinates appropriate medical
scheduling of staff.
- Approves admissions
to and terminations from the department in collaboration with the Department
Administrator.
- Attends and
participates in meetings (team, medical, management, planning, etc.).
- Functions as
interdisciplinary team member.
- Insures all medical
employees-OP are trained
- Performs continuous
quality assurance and utilization tasks.
- Assures department compliance
with CW policies, Washington Administrative Codes, Revised Code of Washington.
- Practices risk
management.
- Represents the
Medical Department to the community.
- Works collaboratively
with other department managers for the benefit of the entire organization.
- Orients and trains
new staff in collaboration with Department Administrator and Nurse Lead.
- Provides clinical
supervision and/or consultation with nursing staff.
- Reviews clinical
paperwork of nursing staff, with assistance from Nurse Coordinator.
- Periodically review
duties and update as process change takes place.
- Review charts for
clinical standards.
- Update and review
medical standards.
- Review incident
reports.
- Resolve medical
related complaints.
- Ensure there is
coordinated care and effective discharge planning in all areas of client care.
- Responsible for
Department of Health Yearly Audit and corrective action planning.
- Performs direct
service with other staff for the purpose of training and support to the team.
- Oversee treatment
planning and authorization process
- Make sure treatment
plans and authorizations are kept current.
- Work independently
within scope of practice
- Maintain current
certification in CPR, First Aid and CPI.
- Effective use of
technology and software including but not limited to: computers, phones, email,
EMR, etc.
- Be helpful,
respectful, approachable and team-oriented.
- Effective time
management including but not limited to: planning ahead where possible, be
punctual in person and with work performed.
- Build strong
working relationships and a positive work environment.
- Provide pertinent
verbal and written shift reports to interdisciplinary team.
- Be receptive to
feedback, willing to learn, and embrace continuous improvement.
- Complete all
documentation, reporting, and other paperwork per agency standards.
- Attend and
participate in appropriate staff, medical, organizational, and external
meetings. Attend
collateral meetings with other clinical staff when requested.
- Work efficiently
both independently and as part of a team.
- Other duties as
assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of
an accredited nursing school and possess a current license (under chapter 18.88
RCW) as a registered nurse, PA or ARNP.
- Must have a minimum
of five years nursing experience; including a preferred two years' experience
in the direct treatment of mentally ill persons.
- Must be must possess
strong supervisory and leadership skills in addition to a substantial knowledge
base and skills relating to the clinical and legal issues of psychiatric
nursing
- Must be an effective
communicator who encourages professional growth and promotes change on behalf
of program goals.
Salary:
Depends on qualifications and years of
relevant experience.
