Position Overview 

This position provides clinically appropriate outreach and engagement services to individuals with identified or suspected Behavioral Health needs.  This MHP will function as an adjunct intervention specialist with the Sherriff's Department.  Engagements are provided to address a broad array of behavioral health needs, including facilitation to a supportive Medical Home.  Services are provided with a context of multi-agency collaboration with an emphasis on effective, recovery-based outcomes.  Natural and formal supports are actively involved in treatment as appropriate.  The First Responder MHP will be a member of the Columbia Wellness Outpatient Department. 

Summary of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Services to, or on behalf of, behavioral health clients:

• Access individuals of all ages to determine diagnoses, needs, goals, strengths, supports, & culturally relevant issues impacting behavioral health needs
• Identify and develop an appropriate course of care delivery that includes immediate referral to crisis intervention / stabilization services as deemed medically necessary and appropriate
• Engage with community service providers to ensure appropriate assessments and treatment courses are identified and pursued
• Continually re-assess existing clients to identify engagement and referral needs
• Provide case-management services as necessary
• Consult with relevant community agencies, the coordination of multi-agency services, and participation in multi-agency support teams on behalf of consumers
• Provide appropriate Behavioral Health training to members of the Longview Police Department as needed
• Provide trauma-informed interventions as needed with the inclusion of Mobile Crisis Team stabilization services as deemed medically appropriate and necessary
• Participate in regular individual supervision from clinical manager
• Display a professional image to the community
• Ability to be flexible and manage schedule appropriately to address workload demands and trends
• Ability to motivate staff and develop a working team around individual cases
• Effective time management including but not limited to: planning ahead where possible and be punctual in person and work performed
• Build strong working relationships and a positive work environment
• Be receptive to feedback, willing to learn, and embrace continuous improvement.
• Complete all documentation, reporting, and other paperwork per agency standards
• Attend all appropriate staff, organizational, and external meetings (as assigned)
• Work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A person having at least a Master's Degree in social work, behavioral, medical or nursing sciences from an accredited college or university.
• Two years' experience* in providing direct treatment to individuals with behavioral health needs required. 
• *Recent graduates are not subject to the required two years' experience.  Recent graduates shall receive a higher level of supervision until they 1) meet the WAC Mental Health Professional definition, or 2) receive a MHP waiver.
• If not licensed, Agency Affiliated Registration in Washington State is required.
• State of Washington mental health specialty in child, disability (developmental disability/serious physical handicap or sensory impairment), and/or older adult populations preferred.
• Clinical competence in providing assessment, supportive services, education, and therapy to consumers and their natural supports.
• Clinical competence in the provision of individual, family and group treatment.
