Position Overview 

This position provides outpatient support services and mental health therapy to all clients served at Columbia Wellness.  Counselor will provide services to a broad array of mental health disorders based on counselor's demonstration of skill and knowledge of treating disorder.

Summary of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

With the guidance of a fully licensed Master Level Therapist, gather information about clients using case histories, observations, and assessments. Develop a treatment plan best suited for the client and facilitate and lead groups.

  • Identify co-existing conditions (such as medical or psychiatric) that indicate the need for additional services with Columbia Wellness or as a referral during treatment planning.
  • Develop initial treatment plans, formulating goals using time-specific, measurable, and behavioral terms.
  • Individualize therapy in accordance with culture, gender, and lifestyle.
  • Review documentation completed at time of intake.
  • Provide overview of program operations to client. For example, explain the client's obligation in his/her own treatment process, program goals and objectives, etc.
  • Be familiar with all agency policies/procedures and reinforce when necessary.
  • Review the assessment data gathered during intake.
  • Obtain corroborative information from secondary sources such as family members, EAP, etc. when necessary.
  • Use individual sessions to assist client in exploring problems and ramifications, attitudes, and feelings. Elicit solutions from client.
  • Interact with client in an appropriate therapeutic manner in accordance with agency policy and ethical standards.
  • When necessary, coordinate services for client care. These services can include care coordinators, medical team, etc. Explain the rationale for each of these case management activities to the client.
  • Recognize the elements of a client crisis and implement an immediate course of action as appropriate in coordination with other members of the treatment team.
  • Present clients with information about resources available within CW and in the community (such as self-help support groups, psychiatric help, medical care, etc.).
  • Identify areas of clients' needs and/or problems that cannot be met. Match the client needs to appropriate resources. Assist the client in utilizing those resources if necessary. Completion of all clinical paperwork, such as progress notes, quarterly reviews, transfers, requests for service authorizations, group notes & rosters, etc. per agency timelines and standards.
  • Assistance in assessment of client's clinical needs.
  • Provision of individual, couple, family therapy based on evidence of skills and knowledge.   
  • Facilitate & assist in groups based on evidence of skill and knowledge.
  • Identifying various needs not provided by CW and connecting client with community resources.
  • Effective use of technology and software including but not limited to: computers, phones, email, EMR, etc.
  • Ability to work with difficult cases and vulnerable populations.

  • Coordinate with referral sources as needed to engage clients.
  • Coordinates with Community and CCBHC personnel to ensure effective client care.
  • Maintains, records and reports in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Complete all documentation, reporting, and other paperwork per agency standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a counseling-social services related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Upon hire: professional registration or certification by the Licensing Department of the State of Washington as a counselor.
  • Clinical competence in providing supportive services, education, and therapy to various populations.

Salary: $18.78/hour

This position is a part of a union (OPEIU Local 11)
